Source for Triton PRA001 filters, and perhaps batteries?

Triton hasn't made that product nor any other respirator in years and doesn't provide support for any replacement parts for it. The original filter wasn't anything to brag about so you could probably substitute any similar looking filter material in its place.
 
If it's the same as the Triton one that I had years ago, there were never any Triton branded filters for it because they designed it to use common respirator filter cartridges that were available at almost every hardware store over here. You might be able to find an off-the-shelf replacement over there that fits.

So that explains the two round holes in the fanny pack. Then the solution is easy just get the kind of filter that you want. Normally that would be simply a couple particulate filters.

I would love to replace with NiMH, thanks for the link! As to filters, the pre-filter probably could be replaced with something we just cut out from a bigger filter. The cartridge filters are available, but seemingly only in Australia or New Zealand.:confused::p They are "Protector RC 64 Filter Cartridges." I have a second cousin who is living in Australia now, wonder how much hassle it would be to have them buy filters and mail them to me. I will send an email to this company (in Australia) to see if they ship to the US, and let you know what they say. Will hold off on any battery replacement until verifying that filter replacements are available. I bought this respirator 6 years ago from a retiring turner, and shortly thereafter deserted the lathe for the horses, so it's been sitting on a shelf all this time.
PS: I suppose it's possible the cartridge filters might be replaced with something current of the same dimensions.

Hello from Australia. Just wondering what your long term experience was with the NiMH in your Triton PRA001? Mine is sixteen years old now and struggles with the NiCads. Did you use the Triton charger or a smart charger with them?

When using NiMH batteries it is necessary to use a smart charger that is compatible with the batteries that you are using. I wouldn't use the existing NiCad charger without confirming that it will work with NiMH batteries (most likely it isn't compatible). If you can find a Li-ion battery pack with the right voltage, that would be the best solution ... they're lighter and store more energy than other types of batteries.
