I have an older Stubby 750 lathe that I have not used in the last couple of years. I started turning again now after about 4 months the on off box will make a pop noise and start smoking. I checked the box and everything looked good. I turned it on again and it worked for a wile and then the same thing happened. It then turns on again and the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there have any answers?
Thank you,

I’ve had issues on my 750 that were fixed by opening the box and blowing all the sawdust out. No smoking or popping though!

can you share a picture of the inside of the box? Not a stubby user so not sure what’s inside it. Wondering if there is a capacitor in there that is on its last leg.

I don’t know if mine is the same as Les’s but here is a picture I took when I disassembled mine for painting. Just three switches and a pot.

Thank you, I have already asked the Stubby owners group.
I just managed to get to the controls under the head stock and blew out all dust. There was not anything visibly wrong but when I tried to turn something it worked without smoking. I hope this solves the problem.
Thank you everyone for your help.
Les
