I was saving some sycamore I got a few weeks ago,by cutting away some radial cracks that began on the outside of this log piece and ended up with a long rectangular blank. Not many things it was suited for but perhaps a narrow tall hollow form or a vase...........vase it was!

This is classic sycamore grain from a mature tree...........sort of has a feel of orange peel, even though it has been through several sanding sequences.............kinda cool if you ask me!

This is 9.5" tall and 4.5" wide.

Roger,

Very cool indeed. I really like the shape and the detail below the rim. And the wood is really beautiful.

I like it. Great looking grain and nice design. Just think- I had a sycamore tree cut down several years ago and hauled off. It was about 80 feet tall. Do the math on how many goblets it contained. :(

Thanks John............I like sycamore for the grain structure. This particular tree that this vase came from was past its prime for sure and had a hollow section and many ants, boring insects and such in it.......it is a bit of a challenge for sure, but if one could get sycamore that is not too far gone, I think it makes pretty turnings.
