I've been meaning to make an acorn box for my brand new grandson, and considering buying a knurling tool for the cap. In the latest American Woodturner, there's an extremely timely article by our very own John Lucas, on how to make an Elf decorating tool. The instructions are clear and I've got a couple extra Dremel bits that should work perfectly. Now if I can figure out how to drill metal....

Drilling is easy if you have a set of jaws that will hold the metal. I find the best texture for mynacorn boxes is using a Dremel engraver. Take the pointed tip out and put a new tip in that has a rounded over end. I just broke a 1/8" drill bit at the shank and polished the end. Then you take this tool and just sort of scribble all over the wood. Creates a fantastic texture.
