My friend and fellow turner just got a Robust American Beauty lathe. How he got it is a story worth sharing.
His father in- law was dying and knew he had little time left. He told his daughter on the last visit that he was going to give her and my friend money he wished them to have and enjoy while he was still alive. My friend's wife asked my friend what he wanted to do with this gift. He said paydown a loan they had taken out for their daughter's college tuition. His wife said her father would not like the money spent that way. She said he wanted the money spent on something that would bring my friend joy. She said he would want you to have that new lathe you wanted but could never afford.
As we uncrated that beautiful lathe and I saw the expression on my friends face, I new his father in-law's wish had come true. My friend said he was sad that his father in-law had not lived to see this day. I said put your hands on the lathe. close your eyes and you will see his face smiling.
