Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out what kind of tool this man using in the attached images and video. The man is working in Korea and I think what he’s using is similar to a Japanese block plane. If anyone has any ideas on the exact tool he’s using I would greatly appreciate it! He’s using the tool at the 2:27 mark on the attached video.

Thanks

That is like a block plane And the method used is quite common for spindle work. The idea is to bridge the low spots and take off the high spots. The cutting action is similar to a skew but the sole of the plane controls the depth of the cut.

Pat, one of the moderators will likely come along and move your question and answers to one of the two main forums. This one is supposed to be where people share a tip or instruction. It'll still be present and people will still respond, but you may be surprised when it happens.
