My choice for Turning of the Week for April 17, 2023, is "Bradford Bag-o-Sand" by Michael Anderson. I can envision that this beautiful hollowform with its "just right" curvature could easily be mistaken for the real deal. And, for me, the coup de grâce is the texturing that is the convincing statement that this really could be a bag-o-sand. Michael, for a relatively new turner, I am simply amazed by the turnings that you have produced.

Thank you Russ, Randy, John, Doug, and Larry! :)

Larry, I used a Dremel w/ a Flex Shaft attachment (important for getting to the interior), and a couple of different burrs. Mainly, I used a 1/4" rounded cone-shaped bit, but also a couple of different ball burrs. Short strokes in random directions, some straight and some curved. After carving, I rubbed vigorously with a purple scotchbrite pad to smooth everything a bit.

This is beautiful and right up my alley. I really appreciate the simplicity of tools to create the texture.

Just catching up with this. Well done Michael this is a great piece and congratulations
