It's never easy to choose the TOTW.I really enjoy going through the gallery and seeing the quality of the work. This week's honor goes to Ricc Havens and his work titled "Black Ash." What drew me to this piece is the clever use of the bark intrusion. Ricc saw the potential in that chunk of timber with the bark intrusion smack in the middle. He saw it and pulled it off nicely. I also like the use of the Pewa. The Hawaiian language has no plural, its simply 3 pewa. one of the hashtags says hollow form. I think the #Vase is the closest one to describing it. Well done Ricc, congratulations!

Thanks guy fio the kind compliments. As for seeing the potential - sometimes I do and other times like this one it was more like "put the face shield on, stand to the side a bit and let's see what happens" 😁😁

I am happy when I get a completed piece like this. To be honest I get a lot of failures due to my vision. I am considered legally blind. I can only see light/dark shadows in my right eye and my left eye I have lost almost all my peripheral vision and and down to less than 10% center vision (tunnel vision) Imagine looking through the cardboard tubnb from a roll of paper towel and that's about what I see with my left eye. And my eyes only process around 50-60% of light perception that people with regular vision have. So I have to have A LOT of extra close up task lighting and it takes me a whole lot longer to turn anything compared to regular sighted turners. So I really appreciate it when something I turn gets some recognition. Helps take away some of the frustration of things that don't turn out.

THANKS!
Ricc

Thank you, the president of my club congratulated me......I didnt get the email/newsletter.......or deleted it some way.
Ah, just got reply......didnt know what piece it was till now. LOL
Oh, and sorry for the lack of ready rules on my Box entry.......my bad, dont get on here to post alot.
Thanks again.

Thanks everyone for the most recent kind comments.

As Darryl mentioned, this has been up for two weeks. While I appreciate that it's still showing there have been many pieces posted that would have been great selections for TOTW for last week. Hopefully whoever has the task to chose isn't in ill health or something and someone else's piece will get chosen for this week.
