It is always very challenging to choose a featured turning. Take a look at the photo gallery, and you will see that there are so many worthy pieces. I often have a few in mind, and then something new comes up and takes the lead. In this case, as I was looking back through the gallery, a couple of @Carl Ford's pieces stood out to me for their vibrant colors and interesting (yet uncomplicated) patterns. I ended up choosing Rings of Raindrops in Living Color.
This platter is such a pleasure to look at for several reasons. The pattern is crisp and clean. I appreciate the even spacing and evenly sized rings that alternate between thing and thick. The carved black dimples are also consistently sized and well-spaced. The black background color of the dimples and incised lines really helps pop the extremely colorful surface. Likewise, keeping the thin rings green helps accentuate the variety of colors of the large rings. I also appreciate that you concentrically incised the bowl, along with painting a nice color gradient--this really creates a mesmerizing effect. Your stand is also nice and subtle, and does not distract from the platter. Furthermore, your photo is excellent, and commensurate with the quality of the embellished turning.
