Choosing a featured turning is always a challenging task. I had a fairly long short list, but eventually settle on @Michael Nathal's stunning "Eroded Wheel". I've been a fan of Mike's work for a long time, pretty much since I started turning. He's impressed me many times, and continues to deliver. This piece is such an effective illusion--contrasts of color, finish, texture. It's a total package. In particular, I appreciate how Mike was able to restrict figure visually to the outer polished section. I'm also mesmerized by the flame jetting across the carved interior. Sort of an allusion to the inside being a skeleton. And, I sort of extrapolate that to represent the effort required to produce such carved relief. The non-uniformity of the flutes is nice, and further supports the weathered appearance. What more can I say but thanks for sharing and well done!
