Several weeks ago I was invited to fill a slot in the TOTW team. This week is my first pick and I have selected David Bartell’s Critter Series 3 for TOTW. I have long been a fan of David’s work combining minimalistic basket illusion with stunning Texas Mesquite. His new series adds a playful element to the interior of his bowls while remaining true to his signature style.

Great choice Kevin! You will make a great addition to the TOTW team. David, I think your design is wonderful. Just the right amount of embellishment and colour and the placement of the center motif is spot on! Keep 'em coming.

Awww yes, great choice! David’s work is so nice, and this critter series take it to the next level. Congrats, David!

Congratulations, David. Love your work for for all the reasons and choices that Kevin mentioned. Well done, Kevin !

Just looked at David’s album over on the WOW site. WOW! Never knew you could make so many beautiful and unique pieces in a single theme.

Congrats David on your selection. Having seen this in Gallery I was inspired to do a basket weave piece as I had never wanted to do a traditional full bowl in it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Gerald. I work almost exclusively with Mesquite and never wanted to fully disguise the wood with full basket illusion. Rather, partial basket illusion seemed a good way to draw attention to and complement the wood especially within the theme of Southwestern shapes and Native American designs. It’s a fun form of embellishment.
