I was very surprised at getting turning of the week twice, and very honoured as well. Which I only found out about through Tweeter. Am I missing something as on here I did not even know that there was a turning of the week post. It would be good to be able to see these as I would like to see other turnings of the week by other members even though they do post in the gallery

congratulations. I don't often go to the home page but somehow I was there the other day and saw your piece. When I had a piece there i found out from someone else.

I just looked at both the Forum home page and the AAW home page. Still couldn't find Turning of the Week.

It's not featured on the home page of the AAW main site, but it can be found in the lower right column of most of the other pages. I haven't checked to see whether you have to be logged in to see that content. Here is a link to a page that shows the TOTW: Find a Chapter

I assume that somebody on the AAW staff is in charge of selecting the TOTW.

Early last year when we were working on customizing the user interface for our new forum software (XenForo), one of the requirements that we (meaning the head honcho, Steve Worcester and me, his trusty sidekick) gave the software programmer, that the AAW had contracted with, the task of implementing a TOTW feature on the forum home page. Our plan was to have a committee of forum members to select a turning for the weekly honor. Unfortunately, working with the programmer was like pushing on a rope ... not much happened at the other end. :(

I would still like to see that feature implemented in a future update to the forum software. Recently, I've been experimenting with some options that I have in the administrator control panel to see if I can implement something that approximates what we originally envisioned. Currently, hidden deep in the bowels of the gallery there is a TOTW area that we planned to use as a repository for current and past turnings selected for TOTW. We have some test images there that were intended to be used during the testing phase. Anyway, FWIW here is a link to that page: TOTW

Pushing on a rope. I like that. reminded me of a joke. A city boy was driving down the road and saw a country boy dragging a chain. He said, "why are you dragging that chain" at which the country boy replied, "ever try to push one of these things?"

Bill,
Couldn't the TOTW be posted to the forum by whomever makes the selection? If so, would someone please ask them to do so? I bet all of us would like to see and maybe congratulate the selected turner.

First of all, the software would need to be modified so that it would appear on the forum home page and then the person posting the image there would need moderator privileges to move an image into that category. Also, I think that forum members should be in charge of making that selection. I like the way that it is done on Woodturners Unlimited and on World of Woodturners where committee members take turns choosing the featured image.
