Vacuum adaptor problem

The vacuum adapter that came with my used Stubby lathe will not allow me to pull more than 20” Hg. I checked out everything in the system and it pulls 25” up to the adapter. I don’t know who made the adaptor (picture attached). I tried pressing out the bearing to replace it but wasn’t successful. Probably ruined the bearing in the process. It doesn’t turn smoothly now. Any suggestions?

Your adapter probably uses a sealed bearing to maintain vacuum. The seal has probably failed and the bearing grease has been sucked out. You will have to get the old bearing out and replace it with a new one....bearings are cheap.

Their may also be a grease seal in the adapter that has failed. Sometimes those can be hard to source.

As I understand it (not a Stubby user) there are some considerations unique to Stubbs when it comes to vacuum adapters/chucks. You might want to ask this on the Stubby groups iOS forum - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjxs8ztuIf-AhXHAzQIHWp1D3QQFnoECA8QAQ&url=https://groups.io/g/StubbyLatheOwners&usg=AOvVaw0-LYBZybJUEHrDtcN1_XaF
or on the Facebook page for Stubby users.
Don’t know how much traffic the groups.I’m forum still has, but its worth a shot.
