What would you turn?

What do you see in this piece of Mesquite......2 1/4 X 5 X 7?

I see a picture of scooby doo turned sideways in the first pic but that's just me. No help on what to turn, sorry.

My first thought was to use some as a lid for a box. Contrasting with a lighter wood, like Maple. Otherwise, maybe a few bottle stoppers.

A lidded box, perhaps a couple of pill boxes or a pendant. I like the grain pattern in the first picture (lower left portion), it could make an insert in a lidded box of a contrasting color box.

Looks like there are a couple of spindle blanks trying to get out to me.

some nice interesting grain, would make for good handles for kitchen tools, bottle stoppers, ornaments, etc.

it is large enough to do a seed jar. I do these with face grain in the top. Yours would have endgrain on the top.
For 2000 years woodworkers have been hiding end grain. Your blank might have the rare pice with nice looking end grains.

Turning a seed jar - split hollow form

I turned one of these for after dinner entertainment at SWAT-2017 along with Trent Bosch. Trent turned a traditional hollow form in an informal race and finished first. A fun time. Since then I have done several of these in club demos and also did a club workshop where students turned them...

these four are about 7” diameter but these scale nicely and a 5d x 2h will look nice
red gum eucalyptus, poplar with Turkey motife, poplar dyed black, cherry with feather motif.
