I'm wondering whether these are correctly identified -
the first three show Maple and I think, the remaining three, Myrtle?

I'll agree on the maple (even if you hadn't stated what you think it is based on titles) , but as I have never turned Myrtle I'd have absolutely no idea what it looks like (and I don't think I have even SEEN a standing tree myself, in person)
 
Looks correct, maple and myrtle. Most people down in California call it Bay Laurel, or some times pepper wood. It is actually California Bay Laurel. I think we call it myrtle up here in Oregon for marketing purposes. Kind of hard to sell California Bay Laurel to California tourists when they visit, so we came up with a different name....

Wow .... I know California Bay Laurel / pepper wood very well. Never knew it was the same as Myrtle.. Thanks so much really - cool to know!! Which part of paradise do you live in.? We did an astounding trip around the Metolius river to Sisters ... I have good friends in Eugene.. Thanks again

I have run into a number of people who insist that California Bay Laurel and Oregon Myrtle are two different trees. Early in my wood working career, I was set straight by a botanist and another guy who was president, a couple of times, of the International Wood Collectors Society, or what ever they call their group. They had a convention here once. Several members had link chains made out of all the different woods in their collections.
