Box Elder, turned wet to final thickness of 1/8". A fun project, except for the smell of stinky feet.
The vase lived in a paper bag full of Box Elder wood chips for 2 weeks before sanding and...
Here is a box in box elder that I dyed 3" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter that was cut slightly off vertical. The dye showed up some curl that was barely visible before the coloring process.
I turned this from some Cherry I cut down in the yard. It was supposed to be stock for turning fruit, but it was so cracked and wormy by the time I got to it, I could only get small boxes out of it.
Body: Cherry
Insert: Walnut, Crape Myrtle, and Cherry

Pair of lidded boxes from Walnut, Bubinga, and Curly Maple. Approximately 4 1/2" tall x 2 3/4" dia. I am a newbie turner (and photographer). Please let me know what you think.
I believe I thought too much about trying to get a nice lid fit, and shape the inside and not enough on...

Pear Box with Black Walnut Finial. 3 1/2" w. x 6" h.
My first experiment with trying a cross grain box. I can understand now, why most boxes are turned end grain. Even though this beautiful piece of wood was thoroughly dry, it still moved and warped slightly and the lid needed some...
A piece of silver maple turned into a box shape inspired by Richard Raffan's spire series and dyed. The box is 2 3/4" in diameter and 5" tall.
Been making boxes for Christmas so thought I would post a couple of pictures of what I have been doing. This is probably one of my favorite box shapes. Made of Honey Locus about 3X3.
These started out as ring boxes but now people buy them for baby's first ornament or just to put little gifts in. They're kinda hard to turn because the lid(bottom) fits inside the bell so you can't chuck it the way you would a regular box. Figured Maple and Cocobolo finish with Lacquer and wax.
