Box Elder and Blackwood. 7-1/2" x 3-3/4". Finished with Seal-A-Cell and buffed. The top piece is a simple ring collar around the rim. Difficult to choose just one photo angle on this piece.

The woods and sizes from left to right are: Macassar Ebony, 1" w x 3" t; Holly, 1.75 w x 3.5" t; Blackwood, 2.25" w x 4.5 t; Cocobolo, 2.3/4" w x 6" t. All are finished with fricton polish.

My first box in curly koa. The box finished up at 2 1/8" tall and 3 1/4" in diameter.

This box is 2 1/4" tall and 2 3/4" in diameter. The box was sanded until smooth and finished with wax.

Base, lid and finial -Cherry. Collar - Royal Palm. Box - Jatoba, turned on 3 axes. Finial elements painted and color matched glass beads inset on four sides. Pearl on top. 7 inches tall. 2 inches max diameter.

A pair of simple boxes with the Holly neatly nested within the Ebony. The Holly is 1-1/2" dia x 4" tall and the Ebony is 2" dia x 4.75" tall. Both are finished with sanding sealer and friction polish.

I have a lot of shedua in my box turning inventory and I love to turn this wood. It can have a bit of an odd smell while you are cutting it but it turns so predictably, finishes nicely and remains stable. I like this wood. This box is 2 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter. Comments...

This little beaded box is turned from Santos rosewood and is 1 3/4" tall and 3" in diameter. The box is finished in wax....

This is a Manitoba Maple (box elder) "hollowed through the bottom" piece. It measures about 9 3/4 inches tall and has been dyed with aniline dyes.

Here is a little beaded box, 1 7/8" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter turned from wood labeled as Mexican cocobolo. Hollowed exceptionally well and smelled wonderful. A delicious piece of wood to turn....

This is a multi-wood box, all pieces turned from end grain combining spalted beech for the body, East Indian rosewood for the lid, and spalted beech for the lid inlay. This box is a little less than 2 3/8" in height and diameter.

This bocote clamshell box was turned from some wood a friend sent me and I gave him the box. It finished up at 1 3/4" tall and 3" in diameter. It is one of the few successful boxes I have turned in bocote as most pieces of that wood seem to have wind checks when I purchase it.

to me this is an exciting piece of wood.as andi wolfe has said sometimes nature does such a fine job of decorating.one would not try to embellish it.

Here is my second box in Verawood. This is an unusual wood in that it is very heavy, dense and oily but cuts cleanly and polished up beautifully. This box is 1 3/4" tall and 3" in diameter.

Here is a box turned from some pecan, I believe, with some spalting. It finished up at 2 3/4" tall and 3" in diameter.

Stopped-flutes accent the exterior. Mesquite wood was reclaimed from the dump!
