This is one of a signed and numbered series I am doinf from a cherry tree that was uprooted by Hurricane Katrina. It was on the ground over a year and was about to be cut into firewood so I bought the whole tree (16 foot long)and started rough turning bowls when I decided to do a series of 101...
8 1/2" x 6" Driftwood and Cherry. Gesso on driftwood and inside of fungi. Spore stalks are cherry with pyrography. Upper one has released it's spore. Bottom two are just emerging. Inspiration: This evolved from several things over a period of time. First I found the piece of driftwood...
I havent posted in a while, I have been trying some new ogee shapes and I must say some have not been very pleasing. I have difficulty finding the proper transition spot to make a pleasing curve. I think this one works well with the cherry grain. This piece of cherry had so many soft spalted and...
This black cherry bowl is approx. 9" in diameter and was turned to about 3/32". It was then pierced to the point that it became spring-like when compressed. Sorry for the crummy picture, I hadn't gotten a decent camera at this point.
Base, lid and finial -Cherry. Collar - Royal Palm. Box - Jatoba, turned on 3 axes. Finial elements painted and color matched glass beads inset on four sides. Pearl on top. 7 inches tall. 2 inches max diameter.

Measures 4-3/4" diameter x 3-1/2" tall. Dyed red with the rim left natural and dimpled with Dremal. Finished with wipe on gel poly and beall buffed.
The box is a fairly early turning for me. I got really LUCKY with the Pagoda-like finial (I was trying for 3 steps, this was all I could get).
Tre-wax finish.
The box is 3 1/8 inches in diameter by 4 3/4 inches high.
