1646 Cottonwood Burl

Cottonwood burl with many voids and bark inclusions. Because of that, it's necessary to get a very clean cut without the need for very much sanding. Otherwise the surface will sand out with a very uneven, and unappealing visual effect, and poor felt surface to the touch. Finished 11/10/2018, 11.0 ounces, 7 5/8" x 3", undercut rim, sanded to 600 w/some hand sanding and 0000 steel wool, Danish Oil Natural, Beall 3-step buffing process.

I keep coming back and re-examining these cottonwood bowls. That's incredible work Odie. I tried cottonwood a couple of times, though not burls, and never had anything successful.

Your bowl "rims" are superb and each one is different. This one and your Oct 29 Flamed Maple should reach out and "grab" all of us turners!! I say that because just about every bowl one sees has the "usual" looking rim. I like your approach to design and added features. We should all shake the "turning dust" in our heads and be more creative and think a bit like you, odie!.

@Martin Groneng

Thank you Martin.......I must confess though, that I have quite a few shapes that I do repetitively, so the thought that each one of my bowls are different, isn't quite an accurate statement. These shapes I do, get faster and better with repetition.....and, that is basically my purpose! :D
