Hollow cherry and walnut ornament. All parts were turned then carved and textured. Inside of the stem is bleached at the tip. 7" long, 2.5"D.
Ed, as soon as I saw this piece, I thought "that is something Ed Kelle would do." Then I saw the name. Wonderful piece and great texture. You are doing some super work.

Thanks Gary, it seemed like a natural progression for me. I finally forced myself to do this the other day after putting it off way too long. No way I'd do a whole tree full!

Ed, What a great ornament. I'd love to learn to texture like that. How long did it take?

Very very nice Ed. I am intrigued about your stem technique, as I own a couple of Stoutenberg hollow forms that I keep on wondering "how did he do that?"

Thank you all. The whole texturing carving treatment took about 4 hours or so. As for the stem, I turn the top part as a mushroom form, with the flat underside being the bottom of the curved stem. From there I gradually shape it and wind the stem around pierce my way thru and make the small gap where the stem stands out from the body. Not as hard as you think once you have tried it.
