Birch Box

I liked the spalting on these boards, but I couldn't get the right look. Two lids, three finials on this one alone, and I finally decided enough was enough. I've cussed this piece almost from the beginning, and pulled it out of the trash twice. SWMBO still doesn't like the finial. Shellac, not quite finished.
Fair enough. It's had thinner mounted, almost ornament finial, but seemed fragile. Simply put, I expected the box to be used, which pushes a bit of beef onto a finial to make it into a handle. Like everything else on this bugger, it didn't work. If only they looked in the wood how they looked in my head.

Cute litte bugger, I think. I like the finial. Maybe Ebony would work better (to pick upthe black in the spalt lines) See how it looks different in the 1st foto?

Like it loads.
