Black Gum Stringed

Black Gum Stringed

Black Gum with 29 feet of Cotton string, finished with high gloss wipe-on-poly. Cut a rabbit half the thickness of the string, so it (string) would stand out from the bowl one inch wide. Dirlled two holes to anchor the ends of the string into. Glued one end in and pulled the string tight and kept it tight till reaching the second hole, took coulpe of cuts to get it right to place into the hole and glued. It's 4 3/4 inches tall and 7 7/8 inches wide, 3/8 inch wall thickness.

Very nice shaped bowl, Gary, and the string certainly grabs one's attention and adds contrasting texture.

nice clean form Gary, I also like the introduction of a contrast material they work well together :)

Dale, Pete, Odie-

Thanks. Was a little worried about the string not being tight and might slide down. But after pulling it tight and gluing the end in place. It's tight and I'm a happy camper.

Gary, very nice piece. Is that the one we saw just last week? Before you had the finish done ? Really looks good. Linda L

Linda-

Yep, that's the one. I sprayed the string with the mat finish that Bill said. Taped it up and placed on the lazy-susan upside down to spray. Let it dry all afternoon then removed the tape.
