This is a piece I recently finished. I intentionally cut random slots in an attempt to force the eye of the viewer to try to find symmetry. I think it works.
It's black walnut with Tandy Leather Black dye and finished with Walnut oil. The piece is about 6 1/4 x 3/4.

Interesting concept. Squinting I can see the symmetry. Looking closely, though, my mind/eye detects the randomness.
