Cedar Bowl top

Bowl from a local cedar tree that someone left by the side of the road (2 trees total). Yes, I took them both. About 13" wide X 8" tall. Finished with Tung oil and Renaissance wax.
All comments welcome and thanks for looking, Don L.
very nice

Don, good job on keeping the sapwood color. I have found it hard to do - have not tried tung oil. Very nice bowl.

Nice piece Don, looks like a flower
I bet your shop did smell very nice.
How did you prevented from checking? I never was able to turn cedar without a big crac or cracs.

Thanks guys!

Dave: I rough turned this (to 1" thick), brushed it heavily with "Turners Choice"(http://www.cedarcidestore.com/catalog/item/3343694/2900278.htm), let it sit for a week, then re-turned it and put the finish on. Worked for me, hope it helps you out too. PS- Harder woods sit for about 2 weeks.
