Cedar Burl Wall Hanging

Cedar Burl Wall Hanging

Western red cedar burl, turned and sculpted. The center is dyed and finished with gloss polyurethane. The small ring is metallic gold acrylic. The larger ring is textured with Sorby tool, painted with metallic gold acrylic and then highlighted with metallic copper acrylic. The rest is finished with Danish oil
A work of art! I'm curious how you did the sculpturing. John Lucas had an article about using a router with a lathe. Will you be posting the turning and project on the forum? My complements.

I love the irregularity in the sculpture. It shows thru as truly made by a person.

@John Torchick The sculpting was done with the Fordam power carving system, mostly with a 3/4 inch round nosed burr as well as some smaller ones. Then power sanding with a 3 inch Tim Skilton sanding pad, more sanding with round nosed inflatable round nosed ball sander like the Guinevere System and then lots of hand sanding.

@Art Betke
Thanks. The crafting shows a lot of patience. Again,my complements. We h ave had a couple of turners in our chapter that have done wall hangings. Will give it a try but it will be something simple.
