Chaco Demo Piece

My club asked me to demonstrate how I do my Chaco pieces this past Saturday. This piece was part of the process pieces which I completed this morning. It was a lot to cover but everyone seemed to enjoy the demo. Not the best picture but did not want to set up my photo booth.
Love it, Jim. I too would have liked to see that demo.
What do you use to lightly texture the brick facade? Thanks.

That’s a really beautiful piece!

I agree with what everybody else said. t is absolutely beautiful. I also would love to see a demo of your process for coloring the bricks. IIs the wood alligator juniper?

Thanks Tom - I use a course grade of perlite from our local mine to do the sandblasting. The club will post the demo at some point.

I’ll try to post a link to the demo once it is up. Keep in mind it was the first demo I have done on this work.

Bill - Got to thinking that the demo did not show much coloring, more of an overview. My process involves mixing raw artist pigments (raw umber, raw sienna, burnt umber and burnt sienna) powdered form with a carrier (denatured alcoho, lacquer thinner or acetone). I made a color board with several different mixes and picked the ones I liked most. Once mixed I paint the brick with a paint brush. Once dried I wire brush the color, then spray with a flat acrylic. Hope this helps.
