Chinese sumac natural edge bowl

12" Natural edge bowl turned out of Chinese Sumac (Tree of Heaven). Bowl was dyed then heavily sanded to give the red sky effect. Tree is burnt and airbrushed.

Don, this is superb. The coloration and tree painting/burning gives and oriental feel which goes nicely with the name of the wood.

My other hobby is attempting to grow and style Bonsai, as the last snow here in the NE was starting to melt my trees began to poke
through reminding me that it is soon time to trim and re-pot.
This is an additional reminder of the beauty of the winter trees.
I've been turning some natural edge cherry lately and I think I will try my hand at this. Wish me luck;)
