Church Auction Piece

Church Auction Piece

I made this piece for our church auction. It's made from dyed Maple and Ebony with a brass ring on the top. The design is similar to a piece I did a year ago and was carved using a high speed dentist drill. The dye was applied with an air brush and starts with an orange red at the top and changes to a darker red at the bottom. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Ron,

Form and proportion are everything, and you have done everything right on this one. And for a good cause too, nicely done.

Every now and then, someone does a turning that causes the hair on the back of my neck to stand up with pleasure and excitement.
Thank you Ron.

Art,

I pencil in the line for the main vine and then draw an oval where I want the leaves to be. Then I just start in freehand, making the design with just one pass at each line. I try to keep the flow even and dont worry too much if I waver off some from my original layout. I find that if I try to stay right on the line Ive drawn, I concentrate too much on that particular point and not as much on the flow of the whole thing.
