Clario Walnut Burl Box & Maple Lid w/African Blackwood & Maple fini

Clario Walnut Burl Box & Maple Lid w/African Blackwood & Maple finial 1210-1 Top Angle

4-1/4 d x 4-3/4 h, Sanded to 1200, Danish Oil, Beall Buff.

The Clario Walnut was at 14-16% MC, wet turned and sealed in Jan.12 took 5 months to stabilize and 2 additional months to confirm. The maple was kiln dried stock in my shop.

Your comments, opinions and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, JL
Joseph-

A good looking box. Have you thought about using a different colored wood for the finial or stain (dye) the Maple?

Gary

Gary,

We tried several other wood combinations including just all Blackwood, but my main consultants (Wife and Daughter) liked the above best. The finial is actual a match to the lid, but is off a few shades.

However, as I'm not yet into coloring I didn't even consider it. Now that you mentioned it, this would have been a good test bed as such a small piece would have allowed for several prototype trials to have been created. I have several other boxes in process and now you really have me thinking.

Thanks so much for you rating and even more importantly your ideas and challenges.......JL
