This is a Sycamore bowl that was turned, dyed and burned. The rich red brings out the grain and flaws of the wood, circled by a wide burned rim that gives texture and focus to the bowl.
Did you texture the rim before burning? (like using a gouge to get the texture, then using a torch) or did you use a wood burner to create the texture?
The texturing of the rim was done with a woodburning tool if you like I can post a picture of it it's round and flat. I have a set up so bowls and other projects are held in a chuck and I can burn and carve (sometimes) while watching tv, etc. Except Catalba, swmbo hates the smell; all others, so far are ok.
