This twisted jar was turned off-center from bradford pear and stands 5 1/2 inches tall. The center section was textured using a technique I learned from Art Liestman. The top and bottom circular rings were turned on-center to provide a contrast in shapes. Finish is Krylon matte acrylic.
Terry, it was fun to do. It works well on cylindrical shapes as well. I have to admit that the twisted shape of my turning is somewhat lost in the textured section. I used a modified table knife as a very narrow parting tool to make the grooves. Then the material between the grooves was randomly 'popped out' with a narrow screwdriver to give the textured effect. Adding some darker highlights with a small torch completed the process. Give it a try, I think you will find the results to be worth the effort.
