Conversation Series: Moon Phases

Conversation Series: Moon Phases

Cherry, 9.8"H x 7.5"W x 3"D. Turned, cut, carved, textured, bleached/dyed, brass rods.

This is a continuation of this style of carving that I did on a completely carved piece of recycled Parallam construction beam that has won several awards at local art shows. I haven't posted that piece because there were no turned elements in it. It also is a continuation of the black/white contrasts and negative space in Shell Fragment Series #8.

C & C's are most welcome!
Rick, saw this over on WOW, it just 'grabs" your eye, fabulous piece which couldalso be easily called "In your face". Demands your attention
Pete

Gidaa Peter, many thanks mate. You're right about "in your face", as the two pieces are definitely well within the personal space.
Cheers,
Rick

Rick, this wonderful piece can be interpreted in a number of ways as Peter alludes to. The shapes of the phases give an angry feel to me. If they had been shaped a little differently, a more soothing feel could emerge. Again, really like this piece.

Hi Hal, you're right about different interpretations by different viewers. Ed Kelle suggested on WoW that using separate stands would allow the distance and orientation to be changed at will, creating a very dynamic piece.

Hi Gary, thanks. I find it amazing how the further I go in the abstract direction, the more interpretations I see in a given piece.

Smiles,
Rick
