Cracked Ash Dish
Dave Landers

Cracked Ash Dish

A dish from Ash. About 9" diameter and 1.5" high.
The rough turned dish developed some major cracks, but the figure made it worth trying to save.
After finish turning the outside, I bridged the cracks with Walnut Pewa and filled with Epoxy (died with India ink). That secured things enough to safely turn the inside.
Finish is Walnut oil.

Looks great. It would be cool if someone designed a template—maybe out of silicone (so it bent) with plastic inside the pewa cutout so pewas could be placed also on a bowl interior.

Well, you can just use a regular template on a flat enough (or large enough) bowl. Probably could have done some on this bowl near the bottom (but not near the rim). Not really necessary for securing a crack - but would in some cases make the pewa more visible.
(Also, a bendy template wouldn't help, as the router base that it guides is still flat.)
