Nice way to add whimsey to a box!

Congrats on your first Gallery posting, June. Is that "point" an inserted piece of metal or just painted?

It’s neither. The point is part of the spinning top.
I understand that. On your other photo it looks to be a metallic color - so I guess you just painted/colored it.
I'm currently making a bunch of tops (about two dozen so far) and wondered if you found a source for metal tips ... other than the usual ball bearings or escutcheon pins. Too much time and trouble.

No, none of that. It’s just wood. No paint, no metal, no ball bearings, etc. It spins as is. Question: why add any of that? Why not just turn the tops as is?

Thanks for your response, June. Not to belabor the point (pun intended) but your first photo clearly shows a different color point. I usually use some thin CA on the endgrain where I shape the point to strengthen it. My CA dried up and I just got a new bottle yesterday. Re: ball bearings, etc. - longer wearing and less friction = better spinning - but takes longer to install and complete the top.
