Five-inch diameter California Laurel burl bowl turned ultra-thin and weighs less than one ounce. Colored with TransTint dyes and finished with lacquer.
Donated to local Tarrant Area Food Bank for upcoming Empty Bowls Project.
Thank you very much for the comments. I have had this piece lying around for several years and could not come up with a pleasing finish until now. The bowl was originally thicker, but I turned away some previous finishes and there was only enough thickness left for one last finishing attempt. Luckily, the dyes brought out some of the character of the burl that otherwise looked a bit lifeless with only a clear finish.
