Figured Maple and Tulipwood Lidded Box

This box is a fun idea on how to dress up the tops of lidded boxes. I got the idea from a fellow OVWG member. There are many choices/combos one can do! I chose to go with Figured Maple for the box, African Blackwood for the rings and Tulipwood for the discs. There is also a small defining black ring around the perimeter. Sanded to 600# and finished with gloss lacquer. Again the design is simple, but the wood really shines on this one!
Nice box, Gabriel. I like this form. John Shannon is the OVWG member, yeah? I've seen/held one of his boxes like this--the details are superb.

Yes you're right. I got into box turning about 2 years ago after a one on one session at the Learning Center when he showed me how to make his style boxes.

Great use of contrast Gabriel! The maple pallet with the Blackwood surrounded Tulipwood shout “look over here”! Did you burn the radius line in the lid? Nicely done!

Thanks Russ! I actually used a point tool to make the groove and used a superfine black India ink pen to color in the groove.
