Fragmented Recovery

Black Cherry bowl and White Oak base. This was my second big project during my foot recovery (alongside the cherry bowl I previously posted), and was also my submission for the SWT deconstruct/construct challenge. I am a little out of my element there, but this was a fun way to contribute. I pyro-textured the interior of a natural edge bowl, cut it apart with a coping saw and a scrollsaw, pyro-textured the edges of the pieces, and then re-assembled via copper wire. The base is carved, burned, pyro textured, and sanded. 6" x 6.75" x 4.5".
I made this with the idea of a bowl beginning to explode. This piece was a ton of work—not entirely sure the juice was worth the squeeze, but I did learn a lot during the process and walked away with some ideas for future pieces. Onward! Here are a couple of additional views:

Thanks a lot everyone! Bill and Randy, oh man I was meticulous with keeping everything organized. Still had a couple of close calls though. Dropped a piece in the garage, and another one ripped out of my hand when I was carving the edge. Fortunately they weren’t lost for long. I might have said a few choice words though…

I did build a form to keep everything in order though. I wrapped another bowl I had made in aluminum foil and a couple of layers of duct tape, with the outer layer “sticky side out”. This let me stick all of the pieces somewhere while I worked. Was still a bit stressful, but it worked.
