You must have a high quality, well lit sharp image to start with. Minimum 3 pixel camera. Higher is better. I never rush my photos. Each is well throughout with predictable results.
What I will tell you is that I use different seamless backgrounds, indirect constant lighting on most photos. Three or four light sources and reflectors. I will shoot outdoors in good weather, however no direct sunlight. Mildly overcast days are great. You will have some color shifts from shooting in overcast light or shade. You can color correct images in Photoshop. You need to learn Photoshop. CS is the current version. It will take some time to learn how to use the program to its fullest. Graphic artist prefer Photoshop!
I use Photoshop to enhance my turned pieces not transform them. I want every inch of my turned piece to be visible, certain parts highlighted and others subdued. You can't make a bad photo great. You can however make it better. I always strive for a high quality image right from the camera.
I've worked in photography and graphic arts for over thirty years. I don't believe in short cuts when photographing art. Your creating an image that represents the artist.
