Lancewood

A small Lancewood branch with sap wood. Finished in satin W.O.P. then buffed. Lancewood (Acacia shirleyi ) from the Central Highlands of Queensland and is rarely turned as it opens up twists crack as you try and mill it. Its used for cattle pens due to its strength and durability as it will last up to 80 years or so . Turns well and takes a brilliant finish branches are nicely rounded with even sap wood.
Nice form, excellent carving, pretty wood, Hughie. "small Lancewood branch" ... size? Not sure about the foot - but most of it is hidden by the angle of the photo and folds of material.
