Primitive Series #2

jacaranda - stain
Fantastic piece. Does this have any sandblasting to the surface? Any finish appied at all or just raw wood? Definitely seems to be hundreds of years old. Great job!

Thanks Ed. The surface is rough from the grinder bit I used to carve the shape. The piece was then stained with a couple of different blends of colors then set in the sun ( Florida ) for a few days which helps to age it a bit. I've been exploring non - traditional methods for finishing turnings and have been having fun getting away from the sandpaper.

I don't "normally" like "wood that doesn't look like wood" turnings, but I have to say, you made a really NICE piece. I like the form and the texture... Looks a little like pottery, but with bark.
It seems that you decided to make this a series. The concept deserves a lot more exploration (IMHO).
VERY NICE.

Wonderfully creative unique piece. I know you found it in a Mayan ruins.
