had this bowl blank for 3 years, wrapped in plastic on the shelf...finally finish-turned it this week. 16wx6h

the 50+ year old tree was an ornamental specimen that grew too close to an alamo, ca, home. we don't find too many scarlet oaks here but wish we did because the wood is lovely.

A very handsome piece. The embellishment stands out, yet is very much a part of the bowl. What is the embellished band?

I like it, e. In addition to adding interest with a nice contrast, the texture of the rim would give you a good grip on such a large bowl! Scarlet Oak sure is prettier than our Red Oak.
