Spalted Maple Burl Natural Edge bowl

See my site for more/better photos and info.

I call this "Neighbors" because my stupid neighbor decided that every tree on his property had to go. I heard the chainsaws and paid off the landscapers to bring me the trunk with the burl and the main crotch.

The burl is easily 30" across, I only have a 16" chainsaw. The trunk easily ways 6-700 lbs. I can't move it. I whittled off the cap and this is the result. If I didn't know better I'd guess it was cherry, not maple.

I'm putting this in the Instant Gallery in Richmond. I think, given my limited tools, this is my best piece yet.
