Spiral Flutes

This spiral fluted bowl is about 11" dia. and made of dark sweet gum. Finish is natural: Antique Oil and Beal Buffing system. My first spiral fluted attempt, and I welcome comments.

Very nice. Did you use some auxiliary lighting or a bounce card? It seems to float above the support surface.

Could you describe your process for cutting the flutes? If they're all freehand, the results are amazingly regular, except for one or two. And if you have some WIP photos, or even if not, a How-to thread would be beneficial.

Thanks for the comments. I've done flutes before, but not spirals. I use a Dremel tool or Foredom. Nothing complicated, just cut with carbide burrs followed by lots of sanding. To sand I use inexpensive diamond burrs followed by sandpaper. Photo with 2 umbrella floods.
