Nice piece Keith, totara can be a bugger to get a good finish, oil is the trick.

Thanks Peter this is the first time I have used Totara and it was hard to get a good finish even with the oil seemed to not wont to dry, I thought it was due to the colder weather.

I'm with Don on this piece, excellent and elegant shape. Did you wash it with mineral spirits or acetone to remove the natural oils so you could apply your finish?

I wasn't aware about the problems with Totara untill just resently so I did wipe it down with white spirits before applying the oil.
