Zebony

Another thin wall vase from the same stave design. This one is zebra wood with ebony splines. The rim was an experiment, made from ABS guitar binding which was trimmed to size, set in a form and cooked to set the shape before gluing in place. As another experiment, I left more wall thickness at the bottom to see if the balance would feel nice with some weight to it, but I prefer the others with thin walls all the way down. They feel light and delicate while this feels too heavy, like it is made of steel! About 7" tall, finished with lacquer over CA. All C&C welcome.
Super nice Steve
Great to experiment innit?
Question : How do you cook a bowl?

I just cooked the plastic rim. ABS goes soft and pliable at about 110 deg C. I turned a round slot in a piece of wood the same diameter as the the bowl rim. Shoved the plastic strip in the slot and baked it in a toaster oven at 115C for a few minutes. When cooled down it holds the shape making it much easier to glue in place on the bowl.
