Reverse the locking handle on PM 2014 tail stock?

I have a Powermatic 2014 lathe, and the locking lever for the tail stock is on the back side of the lathe. I find this to be very inconvenient. Will I encounter problems if I disassemble the locking mechanism and reverse the shaft so that the locking lever is in the front side of the lathe?
