My Vicmarc jaws wabble even though all eight screws are tight and the jaw/chuck numbers are correctly aligned. Could the problem be the screws are too long? I like the dovetails but not the wabble . Being afraid of an unexpected release, I have been using my Oneway chuck,

If I understand, your jaws are loose on the jaw slides. Not good! I would not use a chuck with loose jaws.

If you used too long a screw they would bottom out in the hole before locking the jaw to the jaw slide - hence loose jaws.
Screws should be 12mm long.

The screws are part 16. Look in the vm100 or vm120 column as appropriate.

Never had that problem with my Vicmark chucks. Not sure if taking it apart and cleaning, then putting it back together would help or not. Maybe grab on to each one and wiggle it. Maybe both with the jaws open, and with them closed.
