I use Google Page Creater

It's free, fast, low tech for those that don't want to learn to use special software and do the uploads. I did the bulk of this in one morning, then fine tuned it off and on. Still needs work but it is a start and was fun.

To make your own you need a Google email account (free) and then sign on to pages.google.com with that email account (free.) Then just pick a website address and play around with the different styles.

Mine is jerryhallstudio.googlepages.com

Here is my site: http://www.truffuls.com

I designed the graphics and layout and handed it over to GeekHat and they did everything else.

Still need to finish loading entries in my portfolio and a few other pages need more content.

A blog & rss feed is also being added so folks can subscribe and be notified when new pieces are uploaded or when I post a new blog entry.

Mine isn't really in tune with the more "professional" web pages I'm seeing here.....

......It's just my personal online photo album......and can be seen by clicking the link at the bottom of all my posts.

Here’s mine: http://www.tahoeturner.com/

It’s a homemade job done with a lot of help from my computer-savvy son. He set it up in html, but now I can maintain it and add things as they become available.

In addition to the usual gallery photos, etc, I recently added a “How To†section with PDF files of some of my magazine articles, along with a couple of video links.

Still trying to get some problems ironed out. The load time is a little long. I also need to setup an actual gallery and add a shopping cart.

Anybody actually sell on your site? Any luck?

Edit 1/14: Some parts of the site - including the gallery - will have dead links and be down for a couple/few weeks during renovation.

I do have a (rather paltry) website, but looking at these, it is clear I need to upgrade it. I am currently with register.com, but what I want to know is, if I decide to go with another web design site, do I lose my registered website name? Also, what should I expect to pay yearly for a website? And for someone not terribly proficient in web design, are some companies more user friendly?

All I can say is wow! I just clicked through every gallery of everyone who posted a site. Some amazing work.

Just when I thought I was getting the hang of this turning thing some one had to start this thread. O well back to the shop for me!

...my links in the signature, as always comments and critiques are more than welcome.

Needs a serious updating... :)

www.bowlturner.com

Best wishes,
Dave

Along with some of the most beautiful and perfect bowls (my opinion), Dave's site has the best "Links" page I've found anywhere on the internet.

*do I get a lot of points for that, Dave?

kidding, I have no connection nor do I get paid to plug Dave's work or site, but then you all knew that, right? right? :)

This is an excellent thread, it's also helping me see who everyone is, not just a picture of you but sort of insight into the person. I'm loving this and waiting for more websites to be posted.

A note about mine (which is in my signature line), I really do turn and do have pictures of most of my work, just haven't gotten the "Gallery" page nor "My Shop" pages published. That doesn't prove I actually have a lathe and turn, does it?

Steve's post in The Porch gave me an idea.

If you have a personal turning website - post the link up, it would be great to see how others have done their sites.

Mine is www.texasturner.com

This should be fun. :cool2:

Jovan:

My pages were created with free web-site building software called Nvu. All pages are still in development (and some linked pages not done yet) but will give you an idea of what Nvu can do.

Have a look:

Personal Page: http://rwallace.public.iastate.edu

Woodturning Links Page: http://rwallace.public.iastate.edu/WTlinks.html

Gallery: http://rwallace.public.iastate.edu/gallery.html

I've gotten a lot of very positive feedback on the Woodturning Links page, and if anyone has suggestions of additional sites that should be included on it, please send me a PM, or for other suggestions as to content and ease of use.

I've been using Nvu for a long time, great software.
It's code is based on Netscape's Composer.

Links to personal sites OK? Hit counter question...

Would those turners who have posted their web sites in this thread be OK with having them linked on my Woodturning Links page?? - (Mutual links are OK too!)

ALSO - Can any of you who have personal web sites recommend a web-source of free hit-counter software that doesn't require you to sign-off your life or have a large amount of advertizing associated with the counter?

Thanks to several of you for your comments and suggestions - they are much appreciated!

Hope to see many of you in Richmond in about 6 months....

Cheers!

Rob,
Feel free to put a link to my website www.jdmathis.com I use a sitemeter that is free for the basic hit counting. www.sitemeter.com Your website has a lot of real good information. I put it on my favorites list. If you want to see what it looks like there is a small multi colored box in the lower left of my home page, click on it and you can see what info it will give you. Click on by details and it shows the list and click on the number under detail and it gives you info on that hit.
