That's not a lathe, that is an accident waiting to happen. That's the best job he could do roughing out the blank before hanging it off the faceplate?

Looks like a custom job with that drive shaft. The tool rest on it appears to be similar to the one on the VB36 lathe. Not sure if they are made any more.
