1920 cottonwood burl.

Original turning block had 14% MC, and after roughing without anchorseal, it took a total of 5 months to stabilize. The original block was 9" x 2 1/4", and the finished piece is 8 3/4" x 2 1/8". 11.5 oz. Sanded to 1500gt, Danish Oil Natural, Beall 3-step buffed. The only way to successfully finish gnarly Cottonwood burl like this, is to minimize the need for any aggressive sanding.....because of all the big voids and softer bark inclusions.

Very nice! You inspired me with your last cottonwood piece and this does too. Do you stabilize the soft wood with anything?
